How to Use Black Kow® in a Vegetable Garden

QUICK ANSWER

For a new garden, spread a 1½-inch layer of Black Kow® Organic Cow Manure Blend and mix it into the top 6 inches of soil before planting. For an existing garden, add a ½- to 1-inch layer once or twice a year. For raised beds, fill with Black Kow® Organic Raised Bed Mix.

Step by step

    Clear the bed

    Pull weeds and remove rocks and old roots.

    Spread Black Kow

    Cover the bed with a layer about 1½ inches thick.

    Mix it in

    Work it into the top 6 inches of native soil with a garden fork or tiller.

    Plant and water

    Set transplants or sow seed, then water thoroughly.

    Refresh each season

    Add a ½- to 1-inch layer once or twice a year and mix it into the top of the soil.

Growing in raised beds

  • Fill the raised bed with Black Kow Organic Raised Bed Mix.
  • Plant new plants or seeds.
  • Water thoroughly immediately after planting, and let drain.
  • Apply mulch (optional).
  • A 4' x 8' bed takes 11 bags (1.5 cu ft) at 6 in. deep, 22 at 12 in., or 36 at 20 in.
  • Or fill with 50% Black Kow Organic Cow Manure Blend and 50% garden soil.
